SEEN: The Smith Street Band – “Surrender”

Ahead of the new album from one of Ted’s favourite bands in all of Australia (or for that matter, anywhere) from the last few years, Melbourne’s Smith Street Band plus some pals have taken to a big sunny ditch, where they seem to enjoy themselves showering singer Wil in a massive bunch of stuff including paint, eggs, beer, silly string, a flag and some flour. It’s probably a metaphor. It’s defintely a blast to watch, and goes along nicely with their usual gigantic and anthemic mix of guitar-driven fury, tinged with indigation, exhortation and a teeny bit of sadness. For those not paying attention – one of the the best bands of the last few years, from anywhere. This stuff should be taught in schools.
