HEARD: Tree & Ray – ‘Spectrum’

What a cracker! Brisbane’s Tree And Ray‘s new one, ‘Spectrum’, takes a dab of twee, a dash of psych, some Wedding Present, and a ton of late 80s indie and turns it into one of the jolliest tunes of the year.

From the ever-so-tremolo vocals with its hints of Fergal Sharkey, to the choppy and crackling guitars, to the utterly wonderful strolling-on-a-pier-twirling-a-sun-umbrella vibe, it’s a slightly batty soundtrack to the best summer ever, a throwback and totally up-to-date at the same time. It’s slightly nutty, charming in its swagger, and not a little bit wonderful.

They’re playing at The Zoo in Brisbane on 12th Aug. You should go.
